Ward Thomas, professor of political science at the College of the Holy Cross, talked to NECN/Channel 3 about the 10th anniversary of the war in Afghanistan.
“Beyond this point it is not clear that an extended stay of troops will be decisive in bringing about the political system we wanted,” he told the reporter. “The initial goals of the war, depriving al-Qaida terrorists a base of operations and bringing down the Taliban government, have been successful. But long term goals of providing stability may be more difficult to obtain.”
Thomas said getting out may be the best option.
