Katherine Barrett '14 appeared on NBC's "Today" show, during a segment featuring Journey Forward, a non-profit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of those who have suffered a spinal cord injury through an intense exercise program, located in Canton, Mass.
Kate was injured while studying abroad in Spain during her junior year at Holy Cross. While doctors initially thought she would never walk again, Kate was able to walk across the stage to receive her diploma in May, with the help of Journey Forward and her own determination. "Just as Journey Forward has played such an important role in my recovery, so has the Holy Cross community," shares Kate. "I could not have walked across the stage last May without the constant support of classmates, faculty, and staff. From my roommates to the grounds crew, from housekeepers in Williams to the cashiers in Cool Beans and Crossroads, and the many strangers who held open doors, the Holy Cross community has been there with me every step of the way."
The segment was part of the "Today" show's "Hope to It" series, which features individuals and groups that have had a strong and emotional impact on others.
