Applications for the College of the Holy Cross’ nation-leading study abroad program are up more than 30% for the 2023-2024 academic year over the previous year, according to the Office of Study Abroad.
Prior to the COVID 19 outbreak, Holy Cross ranked first among baccalaureate institutions in the U.S. for long-term (full academic year) study abroad programs.
“Holy Cross has long prided itself as leading the field for long-term study abroad opportunities. Student interest in international experiences remains strong, which tracks with the College's dedication to global engagement,” said Jennifer Summerhays, director of Study Abroad.
“What we’re seeing is that the number of students who are choosing to spend an entire academic year away from The Hill is not at pre-pandemic levels; however, Holy Cross remains a national leader in year-long immersive program participation, and exceptional in its commitment to place-based international programming,” Summerhays said.
The College currently offers 40 study abroad programs in 29 countries. As sophomores, students can attend informational sessions, meet with study abroad counselors and submit applications for one of three options for their junior year: semester, full-year or one-month Maymester.
Holy Cross’ year long programs are a staple among its study abroad offerings as it allows students to engage in academic and cultural immersion in their host countries on a deeper level than just one semester.
