WORCESTER, Mass. – With their 56-48 win over American University on Wednesday night, the Holy Cross women’s basketball team won its 11th Patriot League title and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. First year student Bethany O’Dell tallied 20 points while classmate Briana McFadden and senior Kaitlin Foley added 14 points each to lead the Crusaders past American. It was the first time that the two teams met in a Patriot League Championship game in the 16-year history of the League.
This will be the 12th NCAA tournament appearance for the Crusaders. Ten of those appearances were under current head coach Bill Gibbons. Holy Cross will find out Monday who they will face in the first round of the NCAA Tournament when the selections are aired live on ESPN at 8 p.m.
