The Holy Cross community and members of the construction team celebrated a milestone in the progress of the College’s new residence hall with a topping-off ceremony — traditionally held when a building reaches its height.
Students, faculty and staff signed a steel beam before it was hoisted into place, and Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., president, and Jacqueline Peterson, vice president for Student Affairs and dean of students, delivered remarks.
The structural steel frame in the building is nearly complete, exterior walls have started to go up, and work on the exterior masonry veneer has begun, says Leonard Raymond, assistant director for construction in the Physical Plant department at Holy Cross.
The townhouse-style residence hall is located on the inside loop of McCarthy Lane and will house 156 beds. At a projected cost of $20 million, the apartments are scheduled for completion in the summer of 2011.
