About 50 scholars from higher education institutions across the country gathered on the Holy Cross campus for the third annual Patriot League Academic Conference in early November.
The conference began with a panel discussion moderated by Timothy Austin, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College.
A wide range of topics on the theme, Ethics Across the Curriculum, were explored, including linking ethics in the curriculum with “real life,” incorporating an ethics perspective into courses, the importance of institutional mission, ethics and athletics, and institutional programs promoting ethics across the curriculum.
Conference participants also attended an on-campus performance of Thomas Middleton’s “The Changeling,” and talked about the ethical issues raised in the play. The discussion was led by director Ed Isser, professor and chair of the theatre department, and included student actors.
Holy Cross is a founding member of the Patriot League, an NCAA Division I league that stresses academic as well as athletic achievement. The League's full-member institutions consistently rank first among all Division I conferences in student-athlete graduation rates. In addition to Holy Cross, the Patriot League includes American, Army, Bucknell, Colgate, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy as full members.
