As part of the ongoing series, “Holy Cross On the Road” traveled this fall to New York City to showcase the best of the College’s arts programs. Local high school students interested in applying to Holy Cross, along with parents, teachers and New York-area alumni saw firsthand the work of current students and heard directly from alumni and faculty about the lasting value of a Holy Cross education. Guests also had the opportunity to meet Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J., College president and faculty from the departments of theatre, music, and visual arts.
The multifaceted event, which took place in Bennack Theatre at the Paley Center for Media, included:
- A performance by five students and recent graduates of a scene from “Shackled Spirits,” the original multi-media dance-drama, directed by Lynn Kremer, professor of theater, which made headlines this summer at the prestigious Bali Arts Festival in Indonesia.
- Four selections by the 16-member Holy Cross Chamber Singers, conducted by David Harris.
- A multimedia exhibition of artwork by current students and alumni.
In addition, the standing-room-only audience was treated to a panel discussion featuring:
- Osvaldo Golijov, Loyola Professor of Music, acclaimed composer, and MacArthur Fellow
- Margaret Lanzetta ’79, renowned painter whose work is exhibited internationally
- Bartlett Sher ’81, Tony Award-winning director (“South Pacific”) and resident director, Lincoln Center Theater
The panel was moderated by Steve Vineberg, Holy Cross Distinguished Professor of Arts and Humanities and professor of theatre.
