In a Bloomberg.com article about the Super Bowl’s possible economic impact on Indianapolis, Victor Matheson, associate professor of economics at the College of the Holy Cross, warned that the city might not see the economic gains promised by the NFL.
“A rule of thumb economists use is to take whatever the organizers tell you and move the decimal point one place to the left,” Matheson advised. “There’s every reason to believe the Super Bowl will make Indianapolis residents happy. But there’s no reason to believe it will make them rich.”
