"Push to restore ‘Turtle Boy’ fountain"

NECN - Worcester News Tonight

In a news story for NECN - Worcester News Tonight about a fountain in Worcester commonly known as ‘Turtle Boy,’ David Gyscek, the visual arts studio coordinator at the College of the Holy Cross, believes that the strange fountain can become an icon for the city.  Built by Charles Harvey of New York nearly a century ago, the Burnside Fountain, as it is officially known, needs to be restored and many are pushing for a centennial celebration next year.

Harvey died before completing the statute and the mystery surrounding the piece lies in the image itself, a young boy holding a turtle.  “Something like this that’s so quirky and odd can really become an icon for a city,” Gyscek says, “and can inform the cultural discourse that Worcester is obviously always trying to encourage.”
