Notre Dame Professor to Give Talk On ‘Bible and Its Interpretations by Philosophers’

WORCESTER, Mass. – Vittorio Hösle, Paul G. Kimball Professor of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame, will give a talk titled “The Bible and Its Interpretations by Philosophers” on Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. in Rehm Library at the College of the Holy Cross. The talk is free and open to the public.

Hösle is an eminent philosopher with broad systematic and historical interests who is also actively addressing pressing issues of contemporary society. He is author of numerous books about the history of philosophy particularly ancient philosophy, German idealism (Hegel), ethics, and political philosophy. Among his many books are Hegels System (2 volumes, Hamburg, 1987) and Moral and Politik (Munich, 1997; English translation Notre Dame, 2004). In the field of literature he has published a book on Greek tragedy (in German, 1984; Italian translation, 1986) as well as one on Woody Allen (as essay in English, 2000; as book in German, 2001 and in Spanish, 2002). His most recent work is a major study on the nature of the philosophical dialogue that has been published in German in 2006. His exchange of letters with a young girl, The Dead Philosopher's Café, has been translated into 12 languages.
