NCAA Honors Holy Cross Athletics for High Academic Achievement

WORCESTER, Mass. – A total of 15 Holy Cross athletic teams have been publicly recognized by the NCAA for having the best Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.

Holy Cross tied for 7th among the 326 institutions that compete in NCAA Division I athletics for the number of teams recognized.

With these public recognition awards, the NCAA honors the teams that posted multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The report is based on APR scores for the 2003-04, 2004-05, and 2005-06 academic years.

Holy Cross is tied with the University of Pennsylvania for the number of teams honored, following Yale, Brown, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, and Bucknell.

The Holy Cross men’s teams cited are: basketball, football, golf, ice hockey, swimming and tennis. Women’s teams are: basketball, cross country, field hockey, indoor track, lacrosse, outdoor track, softball, swimming, and volleyball.

Commenting on the honor, Holy Cross athletic director Richard Regan ’76 said: “The academic aspect is paramount at Holy Cross, and we’re pleased that our student-athletes are being recognized for working hard and excelling both in the classroom and on the playing field.”
