Lupe Fiasco, a hip-hop artist from Chicago, Ill., started gaining critical acclaim in the underground music scene and through appearance on albums of big-time stars like Kanye West. He signed with Atlantic Records in 2004 and recorded his first CD, Lupe Fiasco’s Food and Liquor, with much success. His debut album earned him three Grammy nominations and a selection as GQ’s “Breakout Man of the Year.” In 2007, he released his second CD, Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool, and a third album is scheduled to be recorded and released later in 2009. Also in 2007 he joined with Kanye West and Pharrell Williams to create the group Child Rebel Soldier.
