Holy Cross Seelos Film Series Fall 2009 Schedule

Defiance Wed., Sept. 2: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber. During WWII, Jewish brothers escape Nazi prosecution and retreat into the Belorussian forest. They join Russian resistance fighters and build a village of refugees to protect themselves approximately 1,000 Jewish civilians.

Drag me to Hell Fri., Sept. 4 and Sat., Sept. 5: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Alison Lohman. In this horror movie with a comic kick, a California bank loan officer finds out she is cursed and tries to cleanse her soul, but is pushed to her breaking point.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Wed., Sept 9: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett. Benjamin ages backwards in this film based on the F. Scott Fitzgerald story.

Star Trek Fri., Sept. 11 and Sat., Sept. 12: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. Relive the early days of the critically acclaimed James T. Kirk and the USS Enterprise crew members.

Revolutionary Road Wed., Sept. 16: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio. Based on a book by Richard Yates, Frank and April Wheeler, a young suburban couple, struggle with personal problems while trying to raise a family in the mid-1950s.

Angels and Demons Fri., Sept. 18 and Sat., Sept. 19: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor. Heroic professor Robert Langdon is brought to the Vatican to solve a murder mystery and stop a terrorist attack.

The Soloist Wed., Sept. 23: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx. A reporter befriends a schizophrenic musical prodigy on the streets of Los Angeles to get a story.

Duplicity Fri., Sept. 25 and Sat., Sept. 26: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Roberts and Owen are corporate spies and former lovers, who team up to exploit both their bosses by starting a war between mega-manufacturers for a multi-million dollar payday.

State of Play Fri., Oct. 2 and Sat., Oct. 3: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Ben Affleck and Helen Mirren. It’s the story of a Pennsylvania congressman, his dead mistress, and the two reporters who work with police to try and find out who committed the crime.

Away We Go Wed., Oct. 7: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Maya Rudolph and John Krasinski. The movie takes you through the adventures of a young couple who travel the U.S. to find the perfect place to raise their unborn baby.

Sin Nombre Wed., Oct. 14: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Edgar Flores and Paulina Gaitan. The film follows a Mexican gangster and a Honduran teenager as they travel north to the U.S. atop a freight train.

Up Fri., Oct. 16 and Sat., Oct. 17: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG. Featuring the voices of Ed Asner and Jordan Nagai. A 78-year-old man sets out to see South Africa by tying tens of thousands of balloons to his house. After he is in the air, he realizes a young boy has snuck onto his balloon-lofted house. Together they set out on a wild adventure.

American Violet Wed., Oct. 21: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Nicole Beharie and Alfre Woodward. In a poor Texas town, a young African-American, single mother is wrongly accused of dealing drugs. She must fight for her freedom.

Chéri Wed., Oct. 28: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Rupert Friend. Set in 19th-century France, Chéri tells the story of a power struggle over sex, money, age and society, after a Courtesan becomes emotionally entangled with a young Parisian boy.

Public Enemies Fri., Oct. 30 and Sat., Oct. 31: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring Johnny Depp and Marion Cotillard.  Set in the 1930s, authorities try to take down American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a major crime spree.

Food Inc. Wed., Nov. 4: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG. Starring Richard Lobb and Vince Edwards. This documentary lifts the veil on the American corporate controlled food industry.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Fri., Nov. 6 and Sat., Nov. 7: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG. Starring Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson. As Harry and friends begin their sixth year at Hogwarts, they learn more about the past of the evil magician Voldemort.

The Hurt Locker Wed., Nov. 11: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Jeremy Renner. Set during wartime in Iraq, the film focuses on the work of an elite army bomb squad, who must watch their backs every step they take.

The International Fri., Nov. 13: Showing at 7 p.m. NO FILM SATURDAY. Rated R. Starring Naomi Watts and Clive Owen. A corrupt bank is involved with illegally dealing arms internationally, and an Interpool agent tries to stop them.

My Sister's Keeper Wed., Nov. 18: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated PG-13.  Starring Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin. Based on a novel by Jodi Picoult, the film is about the travails of a terminally ill teenager and her frayed family.

The Proposal Fri., Nov. 20 and Sat., Nov. 21: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. A boss forces an engagement with one of her younger employees to keep from being deported.

Sunshine Cleaning Wed., Dec. 2: Showings at 3 and 8 p.m. Rated R. Starring Amy Adams and Emily Blunt.  A mother starts a crime-scene cleaning business, in order to send her son to private school.  She goes into business with her sister, who has a hard time keeping a job.

The Taking of Pelham 123 Fri., Dec. 4 and Sat., Dec. 5: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated R. Starring John Travolta and Denzel Washington. A New York City subway train is hijacked, and the passengers are held for ransom.  The dispatcher tries to stop it and comes face to face with the hijacker.

The Hangover Fri., Dec. 11 and Sat., Dec. 12: Showing at 7 p.m. Rated PG-13. Starring Bradley Cooper and Heather Graham. Three groomsmen, who set out for a wild Las Vegas adventure for their buddy’s bachelor party, get just that, when they lose the groom.  In this hilarious comedy, they have to retrace their steps and find the groom before the wedding begins.
