Holy Cross Magazine has branched out into a new platform: the Holy Cross Magazine Podcast.
The goal of the new medium is to provide magazine readers the opportunity to take a deeper look at stories from the latest quarterly issue or examine timely topics in between publications.
The inaugural episode, released this month, features a conversation with Billy Collins '63, who The New York Times has called "the most popular poet in America."
Mr. Collins was serving as Poet Laureate of the United States on Sept. 11, 2001, and was later asked by a Congressional Committee to write a poem to commemorate the nearly 3,000 victims. He balked at what seemed like an impossible assignment. In conversation with writer Marybeth Reilly-McGreen ’89, Collins talks about his initial reaction and what brought him to change his mind, and he details how he wrote the historic piece, "The Names,” a work that he has only discussed publicly a few times.
Mr. Collins was invited to join the Holy Cross Magazine Podcast for its inaugural episode ahead of the 20th anniversary of 9/11 in remembrance of the seven Holy Cross alumni who lost their lives that day.
Future episodes of the podcast will feature alumni, faculty, staff and student perspectives that portray how they are living lives of personal and professional impact on Mount St. James and around the world.
