Holy Cross Listed Among 53 Prettiest College Campuses in America by Architectural Digest

Magazine notes Mount St. James' "incredible landscape design."

College of the Holy Cross is among “The 53 Prettiest College Campuses in America,” according to Architectural Digest’s recently published list for 2022.

The magazine, which considered both architectural legacy and setting, noted the College’s “incredible landscape design” and its historic buildings, such as O’Kane and Fenwick halls, both listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Holy Cross resides on 175 acres and has previously received national recognition for its beautiful landscape. Today, more than  115 varieties of trees and shrubs are on the Holy Cross campus, many of which are commemorative or historic plantings, including one planted by President Theodore Roosevelt.

What’s  the secret to keeping the Holy Cross campus looking so beautiful year after year? Ted Heywood, superintendent of grounds at the College, says we owe it all to the members of the grounds crew.

“The grounds crew here at Holy Cross works hard every day to install and maintain our beautiful outdoor environment,” says Heywood. “To have their work listed as amongst the prettiest campuses in America is an honor and a testament to their achievements."
