WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross will host a panel to discuss issues of exile, war, and displacement on Thursday, April 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the Mary Chapel. The event is free and open to the public.
Panelists are predominantly members of the Holy Cross and Worcester communities who have experienced exile personally or who have worked with refugee organizations or displaced communities in the U.S. or abroad. They will share their experiences with Holy Cross students to provide a better understanding of the challenges exiled communities face, as well as the types of assistance and services that certain organizations can provide for them.
Panelists include:
- Uzra Azizi ’12, a Holy Cross international student from Afghanistan
- Rachel Snyder ’09, a 2008 summer intern at Lutheran Social Services of New England, which is a Refugees and Immigrants Agency
- Martin Musinguzi, an international graduate student at Harvard Law school who was exiled from Rwanda
- Lisa Weinberg, a lawyer for asylum seekers at the Lutheran Social Services of New England
- Adbi Libonde, a supervisor in the College’s physical plant department and the founder of the Beverly School of Kenya
The event is sponsored by Montserrat—the College's new living-learning program for first-year students.
