Nancy Baldiga, associate professor and chair of the economics department, has received the Outstanding Accounting Educator Award from the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA). The award is given to those who show excellence in teaching and motivating students; make contributions to the accounting profession; and are active participants in the Society, serving as a liaison between the classroom and the business world. Baldiga will be recognized at the MSCPA’s annual awards ceremony on Tuesday, May 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the Taj, Boston.
Baldiga a member of Holy Cross faculty since 1992, earned her B.A. from Williams College, and her M.S. in taxation from Bentley College. She specializes in financial accounting and recruitment and retention issues in the profession.
In 2005, she completed five years of service on the Work/Life and Women’s Initiatives Executive Committee of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. As part of her work with the committee, she wrote the book Promoting Your Talent: A Guidebook for Women and Their Firms (AICPA, 2004). The book addresses the issues women face as they try to advance in the public accounting profession.
Baldiga teaches financial and intermediate accounting and corporation finance at the College and has been the chair of the economics department for six years. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs.
Prior to joining Holy Cross, she worked as an audit manager in the Boston office of Price Waterhouse. She and her husband, Bill, live with their two daughters in Hopkinton, Mass.
