Beginning Sunday, September 6, the Office of the College Chaplains will livestream Mass at 11:30 a.m. ET from St. Joseph Memorial Chapel. Throughout the semester, Mass with be livestreamed each Sunday at this time, including the upcoming Mass of the Holy Spirit on September 13 and the Homecoming Mass on September 20. All Holy Cross students, as well as faculty, staff, alumni, and other members of the Holy Cross community, are welcome to join.
"As we begin a new semester at Holy Cross, the opportunity to gather as a community for worship—even virtually—is one we value deeply," says Rev. Keith Maczkiewicz, S.J., assistant chaplain of liturgy. "We look forward to praying together online with students, faculty, staff and alumni and welcoming the on-campus students to the chapel in person this semester."
For the past five months, the chaplains' office offered the virtual series Closing the Distance to keep the Holy Cross community connected as students moved to remote learning due to the pandemic (this complete video series can be viewed here). The final episode of the series was shared on August 30, and the live-stream Mass will now be offered in its place.
"When we sent away the students from campus in March to help flatten the curve, we offered the Closing the Distance series to continue to give our students a connection to the chaplains and Jesuits on campus as they reflected on the Sunday Mass readings," says Fr. Maczkiewicz. "After 23 weeks of celebrating the Word in this format, we are excited to celebrate the Eucharist again during these live-streamed Masses and hope many will join us."
