WORCESTER, Mass. – Four-hundred students, staff, and faculty at the College of the Holy Cross have volunteered for the 11th annual Holy Cross Cares Day — the biggest turn out in the history of the event. The event will take place Saturday, March 29 beginning at 7:30 a.m. in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom. Volunteers will be going to 20 different sites in Worcester including Refugee Apostolate, Shephard’s Place, Burncoat High School, Abby’s House, Crompton Park, the South Worcester Neighborhood Center and the Rape Crisis Center.
Showing their appreciation for the Worcester community, volunteers will spend the day performing service-oriented activities, including painting at several Worcester community centers, raking vacant lots, picking up trash and spending time with young people and families who are homeless.
Registration and breakfast is from 7:30 – 9 a.m. in the Hogan Ballroom. The keynote speaker will be Melissa Zangari ’06, the assistant director of the Nativity School in Worcester. Her presentation will be followed by a blessing, given by Rev. Michael McFarland, S.J., president of the College. Volunteers will work at the various sites from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Participants will arrive back at the College for lunch.
