WORCESTER, Mass. – The Alternate College Theatre (ACT) at the College of the Holy Cross presents the musical Cabaret, Feb. 4-6 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 6-7 at 2 p.m. in Fenwick Theatre (second floor, O’Kane Hall). Tickets are $7 for members of the Holy Cross community and $10 for the general public. Based on Christopher Isherwood's The Berlin Stories, Cabaret is set in Berlin, Germany, in 1930 at the dawn of the Hitler era. A good time can be found at the “Kit Kat Club,” where anything goes on the stage. Sally Bowles, a girl from Chelsea, London, is working as a singer at the club and doing her best to live a thrillingly decadent life. Along comes Clifford Bradshaw, a young and attractive American writer who has traveled to Berlin with the hopes of finding inspiration to write a novel. Cliff falls in with the denizens of the Kit Kat Klub, and takes Sally as his roommate. As he struggles to write his novel, Cliff witnesses the blindness and self-deception of Germans who allow Nazism to gradually take control while they are emotionally and spiritually fast asleep. The musical features a book by Joe Masteroff with lyrics by Fred Ebb and music by John Kander.
