Holy Cross Magazine delves into illustrious career of Bob Cousy ’50

Holy Cross paid tribute to the remarkable life of Bob Cousy ’50 last year.

On May 14, the Holy Cross Leadership Council of New York honored Cousy at its annual dinner fundraiser. On June 7, a life-size bronze statue of the basketball legend was unveiled at the entrance of the Hart Center. On Nov. 16, Cousy’s jersey — along with those of Holy Cross basketball greats Heinsohn, Kaftan, and Palazzi — was hoisted to the rafters at the Hart Center.

To top off the year, the winter issue of Holy Cross Magazine devotes 16 pages to the “Houdini of the Hardwood,” including a personal reminiscence by Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Dave Anderson ’51, an in-depth interview with Cousy by acclaimed sports journalist Clark Booth ’61, and a colorful and informative timeline of his career.

This issue of the alumni magazine carries special significance — reflecting on what Cousy has meant to the world of sports and to Holy Cross.

More features are exclusively available on the magazine’s Web site, including a reprint of a 1962 issue of the Catholic comic book Treasure Chest of Fun & Fact featuring "The story of Bob Cousy”; audio clips of Booth’s interview with Cousy; an interview with his daughters; and a photo gallery.
