Emmich ’10 studies abroad to enhance her Holy Cross education

Megan Emmich ’10 is currently studying abroad at Trinity College in Dublin. It’s an opportunity she says she couldn’t pass up.

“The chance to study in a new environment was exciting and I know that Trinity will challenge me to meet the demands of its rigorous academics. Those demands, coupled with a rich culture, will satisfy my need for intellectual stimulation as well as my desire to become a part of the Trinity and European communities,” she says.

Throughout her year abroad, Emmich will be blogging about all her experiences. Among the things that she expects will challenge her: engaging in research opportunities within the science departments at Trinity; getting involved in activities at the college and in Dublin; seeing The Book of Kells in Trinity’s library; visiting St. Stephen’s Green, an inner-city public park in Dublin; catching some theater productions at the renowned Gate Theatre; and traveling to other parts of Europe to visit friends.

“I’m really excited to meet my fellow Irish classmates and hope they can show me some of the best sites in Dublin,” she says.

Emmich, a biology major and French minor with a premed concentration, chose Trinity because of its excellent reputation in the sciences.

“Trinity is an institution of tradition and prestige,” she says. “That rich, friendly culture along with strong academics — especially for us science majors at Holy Cross — also motivated me in this direction.”

This international experience will help Emmich, from River Vale, N.J., enhance her education. “With my experience abroad, biology major, and French minor, I hope to further embody the Jesuit motto of ‘men and women for others’ in my medical career.” Related Information:
