WORCESTER, Mass. – The College of the Holy Cross will kick off its 114th season of intercollegiate football against Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5 at Fitton Field, on the Holy Cross campus. The season opener marks the 22nd meeting between the Crusaders and the Hoyas on the gridiron, with Holy Cross winning the last nine games and leading the all-time series 14-7.
This Saturday’s game also begins the Crusader’s 24th season of play in the Patriot League. Holy Cross owns an all-time mark of 15-8 in their opening Patriot League contest of the season, including last year's 38-14 victory over the Hoyas. In a preseason poll of the Patriot League’s head coaches and sports information directors, the 2009 Crusaders have been picked to finish in first place.
In addition, Holy Cross senior quarterback Dominic Randolph was named the Patriot League preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He is also one of the favorites to win the Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the top player in the NCAA football championship subdivision.
