WORCESTER, Mass. – Owen S. Fenton is this year’s recipient of the Mrs. Kate C. Power Medal. The award is presented to the highest-ranking student in the second-year class; Fenton is top ranking among approximately 730 students in the Class of 2010.
Funded by an anonymous bequest in 1942, the award consists of an engraved medal and a cash prize of $545.
Fenton, a chemistry major, from Longmeadow, Mass. says he will spend his prize money on text books for the upcoming semester.
An active member of the Holy Cross community, Fenton is co-chair of the Chemistry Student Advisory Committee; a member of the campus organization Allies; and he works with the Let's Get Ready Program, an inner city SAT tutoring program.
His future plans include attending graduate school to obtain his Ph.D. in chemistry and becoming a professor.
