Blog: ‘All of My Expectations and Hopes Have Been Met or Exceeded,’ Says DeConinck ’13

Best source of information on a college is the student body, he adds

WHY HE CHOSE HOLY CROSS “When I began my college search, I was baited by the fact that Holy Cross is one of the most prestigious liberal arts schools in the country. When I came to visit for the first time I was awestruck not only by the beauty of the campus, but also by the genuine nature of the people. Of all the schools I visited (about a dozen), I never saw a campus with more smiling students and faculty than I saw here. The high level of student satisfaction, the geographic location, and the highly esteemed reputation of a Holy Cross education all combined to make this school the perfect fit for me. Since my arrival on campus, all of my expectations and hopes have been met or exceeded, and I’m thrilled that I chose to spend four years here. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead.”

ACTIVITIES Intramural sports: flag football, floor hockey, basketball, soccer (coach); and work study in Kimball Dining Hall

WHAT HE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO “Challenging classes that push students to a higher level of thinking, meeting new people from diverse backgrounds, getting to know all of the traditions, nuances, and subtleties of the campus, and all of the myriad opportunities that life on Mount St. James has to offer.”

WHY HE’S BLOGGING “When I was searching for the college that was right for me, I was overwhelmed by all of the catalogues, brochures, promotions, and bulk mail that colleges would send out. It became very difficult to distinguish between schools when there were literally a dozen e-mails or pieces of mail arriving every single day. All I really wanted as a prospective student was an honest inside look at what college was all about. The best source for this, in my opinion, is the current student body. My objective as a blogger is to provide a reliable account of my college experiences so that prospective students will be able to better understand college life and all it entails. Students should have somewhere to go when the vast piles of mail begin to blur the important characteristics that distinguish one school from another.”
