"10 Things the Super Bowl Won’t Say"

SmartMoney.com

SmartMoney.com called upon Victor Matheson, associate professor of economics at the College of the Holy Cross and expert in sports economics, for their list of ten little-known  facts about one of the most highly anticipated sporting event of the year.

Number one on their list of things the Super Bowl won’t say: Good luck getting a ticket. “You have to have a lot of cash and a lot of luck to end up at the Super Bowl," said Matheson, who pointed out that in addition to high ticket prices, airlines and hotels often mark up their rates as well.

Number nine:  The hoopla isn't super for the local economy. According to Matheson, local communities who host the Super Bowl do not actually gain the promised estimation of $500 million. He said, “We think the numbers are greatly exaggerated,” because they don’t  take into account that such spending takes away from money that would normally go to other local businesses and events.
