‘Women and War’ Subject of Events at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Women’s and Gender Studies, Asian Studies, and Peace and Conflict Studies at the College of the Holy Cross are sponsoring a series of events on the topic of "Women and War" during the month of March. All the events are free and open to the public.

"Women and War" is a three-part series of films, discussions, and lectures exposing the underexamined roles that women have played in international armed conflict. The series is intended to raise questions about women as agents versus victims, to examine societal responses to women’s experiences in war, and to illuminate the factors that contribute to women’s resilience.

The schedule is as follows:

March 15, 4 p.m., Rehm Library Professor Karen Turner, of the history department, will screen and discuss her film Hidden Warriors: Women on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.

March 22, 4 p.m., Rehm Library Professor Sandra McEvoy, of the Center for Interdisciplinary and Special Studies, will speak on "Women and Armed Conflict: Warriors, Paramilitaries, and Terror."

March 29, 6 p.m., Hogan Campus Center, Room 519 Professor Susan Rodgers, of the sociology and anthropology department, will discuss "Women, Japanese Internment Camps, and World War II Sumatra: On Viewing the Film Paradise Road." Her discussion will follow a screening of that film.
