Holy Cross’ Fools on the Hill recently won WEC'appella, an a capella competition between eight a cappella groups from local high schools and colleges; the win was recently featured in an article by the Telegram & Gazette.
The competition, which took place in the Hebert Auditorium of Quinsigamond Community College, aimed to raise awareness and funds for the Worcester Education Collaborative (WEC), an independent advocacy organization working to ensure that students in the Worcester Public Schools are given the opportunity to succeed at the highest possible level and to acquire the skills and knowledge to master the challenges of the 21st century. The night's format had each group performing two numbers apiece, which kept the show fresh and fast-paced for the wildly appreciative audience, according to the article.
Fools on the Hill, which consists of Francie Sullivan ‘16, Kelly Clarke ‘16, Angelo DeNofrio ‘16, Katie Santaniello ‘18, Julia Palmerino ‘18, Carley Buckley ‘18, Caroline Legare ‘18, Katrina Black ‘18, Tyler MacDonald ‘18, Michael Sixsmith ‘17, Kelman Ramirez ‘18, Thomas Petito ‘18, Elizabeth Murphy ‘19, James Falconer ‘19, John Dube ‘19, Joe Egan ‘19 and Lauren Carey ‘19, won over the judges with Queen hits like “Fat Bottomed Girls” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “All These Things That I Have Done,” by The Killers.
"It felt incredible to win this competition. Coming in first place was a culmination of an entire year's worth of hard work and to see it pay off at such an amazing event was truly special,” said DeNofrio. “We felt like we really gave Holy Cross a name in Worcester college a cappella."
