'Renovated Fitchburg Art Museum vows visitors will be impressed'

Telegram & Gazette

A recent Telegram & Gazette article highlights the renovations made to the Fitchburg Art Museum (FAM), home to the art of Cristi Rinkin, professor of visual arts at the College of the Holy Cross. About 10 years of Rinklin"s art is on display in a gallery as part of the Naturetech exhibit.

"This space alone is absolutely gorgeous," Rinklin said. "It is such a treat and wonderful opportunity to have my work in this space. It is open and expansive and shows off my work. As far as a gallery goes to have your work shown in, it's as good as it gets."

The renovated galleries with new hardwood floors and freshly painted walls show off artwork the way it was meant to be, said FAM curator Mary M. Tinti.

Director of FAM Nick Capasso wants the residents of Worcester to know not only do they have the Worcester Art Museum (WAM), but they also have FAM just 30 minutes away. "Worcester and the Monadnock region are two of the biggest artist communities closest to us," said the former deputy director for curatorial affairs at the deCordova Museum and Sculpture Park in Lincoln.

According to the article, the renovations totaled nearly $1 million with about 80 percent of that coming from the museum and 20 percent from grants, including a $140,000 Cultural Facilities Fund grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a $20,000 grant from the Stoddard Foundation in Worcester and $25,000 from the Montachusett Society for the Preservation of Historic Buildings.

FAM was founded in 1925, and its five-building complex has more than 20,000 square feet of exhibition space.
