869 students from 33 states and eight countries join the class of 2022

On the sunny morning of August 25, 869 brand-new Crusaders were welcomed to Mount St. James by a purple crew of current students, staff, faculty, and alumni.

The incoming class — hailing from 33 states and eight countries — unpacked, unloaded and settled into their home for the next four years. Incoming first-year student Tori Iassogna '22, who traveled from Marietta, Georgia, was one of the first to arrive.

"We got here really early and there were so many people playing music; it made me feel really welcome. I'm so excited to meet a bunch of people and sign up for a bunch of clubs. I want to join the chamber orchestra — I might do Campus Activities Board or student government.”

"Holy Cross is a community of close-knit people," says Najee Quashie '21 who decided to become an orientation leader after his experiences with move-in day just last year. "I love how orientation leaders just come to your car and bombard it. I really feel the love and support from all the Holy Cross members and I wanted to pay it forward."

Katherine "Kate" Christou '96 was part of this year's welcoming committee and vividly remembers feeling like a part of the community from day one.

"I was walking down the hall after moving my stuff in and peering into everyone's room. I saw one of my hallmates and blurted out, 'I love your sandals!'. She found me 20 minutes later and said, 'I want to be your friend' and we've been best friends ever since."

That sense of camaraderie was fully evident as faculty said hello, parents said goodbye and students socialized up and down the residence hall floors in their new home.
