Five Holy Cross alumni who have distinguished themselves professionally and in the service of justice recently returned to campus to talk about their work — and students got a front row seat to the action.
Each year, in recognition of how they have lived out the Holy Cross mission, the College honors outstanding alumni with the Sanctae Crucis Award, the highest non-degree recognition bestowed on an alumnus or alumna.
On September 12, the following five alumni were presented with the award at a ceremony in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom: Aimee Bell ’88, deputy editor of Vanity Fair; Elizabeth A. Cafferty ’97, senior advocacy officer for Women’s Refugee Commission; Robert Ferris, D.O. ’92, chief of technical leadership and research in the Office of HIV/AIDS, U.S. Agency for International Development; Dennis C. Golden, Ed.D. ’63, president and professor of education (retired) at Fontbonne University in St. Louis; James P. Murphy, M.D. ’62, an otolaryngologist, formerly in private practice, now providing emergency and elective surgical and medical care for more than 2 million people in Ghana.
During the day, recipients participated in a series of campus events, including a panel discussion moderated by Rev. Philip L. Boroughs, S.J., president of the College, and seminar-style conversations with students, faculty and staff about how their lives and career paths were shaped at Holy Cross.
