Musician to Perform Organ Medley at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Organist Mark Steinbach will give a performance on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m. at the College of the Holy Cross. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will be held in the Saint Joseph Memorial Chapel.

Steinbach will perform a variety of organ pieces, including pieces from Johann Sebastian Bach, Anton Heiller, and Philip Glass.

Steinbach has performed solo recitals in major venues in Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Austria, Germany, and Italy. Some of his performances are featured on the 2007 CD Pipes Rhode Island, an anthology documenting important organs in Rhode Island. He has been featured on National Public Radio’s “All Things Considered,” playing the oldest church organ in use in the U.S. He has performed for the National Convention of the Organ Historical Society and the American Guild of Organists Regional Conventions.  He has recently accepted invitations to perform at the Bolzano and Piemonte organ festivals in Italy, as well as the International Organ Festival of the Netherlands in Amsterdam.

A strong advocate of new organ music, Steinbach earned his bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Kansas, and his master’s of music and doctorate of musical arts from the Eastman School of Music. He received a Fulbright Fellowship, which he used to study at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna. Steinbach serves as university organist, curator of university instruments, and lecturer of music at Brown University in Providence. He also serves as director of music and liturgy at St. Paul’s Church in Wickford, R.I.
