WORCESTER, Mass. – Harvey C. Mansfield Jr., the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Government at Harvard University, will give a lecture entitled "Manliness and the Western Tradition" on Monday, Oct. 18 at 4 p.m. in Room 320 of the Hogan Campus Center. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Mansfield, a member of the faculty at Harvard University since 1962, is the author of numerous books and articles on the history of political philosophy. He translated Niccolo Machiavelli's The Prince, Discourses on Livy, and Florentine Histories as well as Alexis de Tocqueville's Democracy in America.
He earned his Ph.D. from Harvard University and has held both Guggenheim and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowships.
