More than 70 Holy Cross students who conducted science research during the summer will present their work in poster form at the Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium on Sept. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom.
The symposium will include about 60 poster presentations featuring research conducted by students and faculty in the departments of math and computer science, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology, sociology and anthropology, and economics, and about 10 poster presentations from students who conducted research off campus.
Now in its sixteenth year, the symposium is a college-wide event that brings faculty and students together from all disciplines at Holy Cross, and provides an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments as well as those of their friends and colleagues. It is also a way for students to witness the breadth of research possibilities on and off campus, and to open a dialogue with a faculty member about conducting research during the upcoming academic year and summer.
This summer, 60 students spent 10 weeks on campus working closely with professors — all leaders in their respective fields — on projects ranging from sleep deprivation to the social benefits of NFL franchises to opiate addiction. Last month, three students, along with their professors, talked about conducting groundbreaking science research in a video.
