Holy Cross Music Department Presents ‘Hope and Healing’ Concert

WORCESTER, Mass. – The music department at the College of the Holy Cross will present "Baroque Music for Hope and Healing," on March 30 at 8 p.m. in Brooks Concert Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The concert is one of several events taking place on campus in connection with the College’s co-sponsorship of the upcoming exhibition "Hope and Healing: Painting in Italy in a Time of Plague, 1500-1800" at the Worcester Art Museum. The exhibition, which opens April 3 and continues through Sept. 25, explores art’s role as a spiritual remedy during the plague. Clark University is also a sponsor.

Among the works performed at the Holy Cross concert will be Claudio Montiverdi’s "Selva morale e spirituale," which was commissioned during the years of the plague in Venice (1630-31), for the vows to build the church of Santa Maria della Salute, and the setting of the first stone.
