The College of the Holy Cross and the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex played proud host to about 2,000 excited Worcester-area students recently as part of the annual Get Fit with the Crusaders Day.
The students watched a thrilling overtime women's basketball game, held in the middle of the day to accommodate the children. The Crusaders ultimately fell to Dartmouth, 76-74, but the outcome did little to dampen anyone's spirits.
Leandra Carey, a teacher at Canterbury Street School in Worcester, told the Telegram & Gazette that the event was an important window for her students into the world of higher education.
“They get the college experience, they get to come to the campus, they get to experience the game and, for many of my students, this is their first time for them to ever be at any kind of sports game,” she told the newspaper, adding that some of the students know Holy Cross students through the Big Brothers Big Sisters program that links the college and the school.
