Mary Cunningham '17 is inspired by young Catholics working for social justice and making their voices heard. In a commentary for America magazine, Cunningham wants to dispel the notion that there's a decline in millennial engagement in Catholic social justice movements.
Cunningham writes that "if the face of Catholic activism today is the Baby Boomers, then millennial Catholics are certainly the body…we are showing up at rallies, protests and marches. We are the ones organizing events, tweeting, taking pictures and participating in the collective call on Congress to do more."
Cunningham, who double-majored in religious studies and French, also goes on to talk fondly about her experience at Holy Cross and how her faith led her to question the status quo and challenge unjust structures.
