Admissions 101

Attention high school students! Holy Cross admissions officers are spilling the secrets behind the purportedly mysterious process of the college application process.

In a regularly updated blog on the College’s Web site, admissions staff members address the issues and concerns of students (and their parents) during this often anxious time. There is, of course, no “magic” involved in getting into the college of your choice; the Holy Cross blog is designed to help navigate the process and answer questions.

Here are some tips and information admissions officers have shared recently:

• Take advantage of the very important admissions interview. • Don’t be afraid to promote yourself in the interview. “It may be the only time you have to tell us how truly awesome you are,” writes admissions counselor Julia Sanders. • Making the reader react to your essay is one key to writing a good college essay. • It’s not enough that you signed up for lots of honors and Advanced Placement classes senior year, you must also be performing well in them.

The Holy Cross admissions staff will be sharing their observations and suggestions through the rest of the year, so their final suggestion is perhaps their most obvious: keep reading the blog!
