French Ensemble to Perform Music and Text Celebrating Proust at Holy Cross

On Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m., the College of the Holy Cross will host an imaginative performance of texts and music centered around acclaimed French novelist, critic and essayist Marcel Proust in Brooks Concert Hall. The event, titled “L’oreille de Proust,” or “The Ear of Proust,” will feature music by the internationally known French ensemble Les Amis de Vinteuil, made up of pianists Anne-Lise Gastaldi and David Saudubray, and actor Camille Devernantes, interwoven with excerpts from Proust’s work.

The performance will join together themes in Proust’s writing with the music of some of his favorite composers, including Debussy and Fauré, and celebrates the 100-year anniversary of the United States entering into WWI as an ally to France.

Holy Cross is one of six locations Les Amis de Vinteuil will perform “L’oreille de Proust” on their tour of the northeast of the U.S. in April. The event, which is supported by the French Cultural Ministry, is free and open to the public.
