Expert on Islamic Politics to Speak at Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. – Daniel Pipes, a prominent authority on politics in the Islamic world, will present a lecture titled "Militant Islam and the War on Terror" at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom at the College of the Holy Cross. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Dr. Pipes is the director of the Middle East Forum, a Philadelphia-based organization that works to define and promote American interests in the Middle East through publications, research, consulting, media outreach and public education. He received his Ph.D. in history from Harvard University and has taught at the University of Chicago, Harvard, and the U.S. Naval War College.

A prize-winning columnist for the New York Post and the Jerusalem Post, Dr. Pipes has authored 11 books, including, most recently, Militant Islam Reaches America. His articles have appeared in numerous magazines, including Atlantic Monthly, Foreign Affairs, Harper's, National Review, and The Weekly Standard, and in over 70 daily newspapers including the Los Angeles Times, New York Times, and Wall Street Journal. His writings have been translated into 18 languages.

Dr. Pipes also serves on the "Special Task Force on Terrorism and Technology" at the Department of Defense. He sits on five editorial boards, has testified before many congressional committees, and worked on four presidential campaigns. He has been listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World.

Dr. Pipes' lecture is co-sponsored by the Center for Religion, Ethics and Culture and the Peace and Conflict Studies Program at Holy Cross, in conjunction with the Intercollegiate Studies Institute and the Jewish Federation of Central Massachusetts.
