During Year Abroad, McGrath ’11 Dives Into Spanish Culture, Competitive Swimming, Environmental Studies

Aidan McGrath ’11, a member of Holy Cross’ varsity swimming and diving team, plans to join a local swimming team in Mallorca to meet Spaniards his age.

That’s one of the things the prelaw student is looking forward to during his year in Spain. A Spanish major, McGrath is studying abroad to perfect his Spanish and immerse himself in the country’s culture. He will be studying at the University of the Balearic Islands on the island of Mallorca, and is blogging about all of his experiences as he wades through uncharted waters.

As an environmental studies concentrator, McGrath also hopes to learn more about the environment of the Balearic Islands, either through a class at the university or by joining a local environmental club.

McGrath plans to travel extensively throughout Europe during his year abroad (Ireland, Rome, Paris and London are at the top of his list). “Seeing as a lot of my family still lives in Ireland — both of my parents are from Ireland — I’ll probably be there a few times,” he says.
