WORCESTER, Mass. – Boston’s hip hop radio station, JAM’N 94.5, will bring their Campus Invasion “Rock the Vote” Tour to Holy Cross on Wednesday, Sept. 15. The JAM’N Street Team will take over the first floor of the Hogan Campus Center from 12 p.m. – 3 p.m. in an effort to educate students on the issues and encourage voter registration. Their visit to the College will feature music and fun giveaways, including T-shirts, CDs, airline tickets from Jet Blue, and a $500 Ebay shopping spree. The Street Team will also be registering students to vote on site.
The JAM’N 94.5 Campus Invasion Tour is a nonpartisan voter registration initiative that aims to generate political interest among college students and register as many young voters as possible. They will visit over 30 colleges in Massachusetts over the next month.
In conjunction with the Campus Invasion Tour, and as part of a nationwide effort to educate students on the importance of the youth vote, Holy Cross student representatives have arranged a host of additional opportunities to make sure students get their voices heard in the next Presidential election.
The Student Government Association (SGA), with the help of the College Republicans and College Democrats, has set up an Election 2004 Web site (www.holycross.edu/departments/dos/vote/) that includes voter information and links to online registration. Through the College’s Blackboard system, students can log onto a discussion board to debate and discuss the issues that matter to them. The site also contains a weekly poll, where students answer election-related questions and check back the following week to see how the rest of the student body responded.
In addition, throughout the next few weeks, there will be tables set up in the Hogan Campus Center with the forms necessary to establish Worcester residency or file for absentee ballots. Qualified individuals will be available to help students complete the forms, in order to make the voting process as simple as possible.
