WHERE SHE’S INTERNING As part of Holy Cross’ Washington Semester Program, Dunn is at the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. Although every day is different, she says, many of her daily responsibilities focus on outreach — researching and contacting individuals or organizations with expressed interest in the issues reported on. The goals of this outreach are to increase readership of the Pulitzer Center’s reporting, form new partnerships, and most importantly, raise awareness about the issues. Most recently, she has been in charge of event promotion an upcoming panel discussion on Haiti. Other day-to-day duties include editorial and graphic design work, video editing, writing blog entries, and updating the website.

WHAT SHE’S MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO Exploring D.C. and gaining work experience.
WHY SHE’S BLOGGING Before applying to the Washington Semester Program, Dunn wanted to get a feel for what it’s like to intern in the nation’s capital, but couldn’t find much information written by students. “Now I’m blogging partly to fill that void and to help future Holy Cross D.C. interns get a clearer understanding about interning and living in D.C., as well as the specifics of Holy Cross’ Washington Semester Program.”
CAREER GOALS Dunn is hoping that this internship will give her a better idea about potential career paths.
ABOUT THE WASHINGTON SEMESTER PROGRAM The multidisciplinary program provides students with direct, hands-on experience related to their major field in Washington, D.C. Each semester, Holy Cross sends 15 or 16 students to intern, study (a seminar titled Topics in Public Policy meets once a week) and conduct research for a thesis for a full semester’s academic credit.
