Alumni Recognized for Years of Service to Their Alma Mater

In Hoc Signo Awards presented during Homecoming Weekend

Holy Cross graduates join a famously loyal and active alumni network. Many of them bring the Jesuit call to be “men and women for others” to support the greater College Community in ways great and small.

Each year, the General Alumni Association bestows In Hoc Signo Awards on three alumni who have distinguished themselves with dedicated, outstanding and lengthy service to Holy Cross.

The award is unique in that the sole criterion used in determining the recipients is service to alma mater, explains Kristyn Dyer ’94, director of Alumni Relations at Holy Cross. “The alumni who have received this award have gone above and beyond in their efforts and participation in alumni and College activities,” she says.

The 2009 In Hoc Signo Awards were presented at the inaugural General Alumni Association Dinner during Homecoming Weekend to: Frank J. Geishecker ’53, Rev. Thomas P. Henehan, MM ’60 and Paula M. Murphy ’76.

“When I think about this award and the alumni we honor, I find it especially impressive to see such faithful and sustained commitment to Holy Cross in spite of the many directions that we are pulled in these days,” says Dyer ’94.

The In Hoc Signo Award is the General Alumni Association’s highest honor.

“The Holy Cross Alumni Association was created in 1869 with the purpose of advancing the ideals and interest of the College as well as strengthening the bonds of alumni to alma mater,” Dyer says. “Our graduates are one of our most valuable resources and this award is a fitting tribute to the Association’s original goals.”

The first In Hoc Signo award was given in 1960, and, including the 2009 recipients, 140 alumni have been honored.
