Approximately 30 alumni returned to Holy Cross on Aug. 29 to welcome first-year students and help them get settled into their new homes. Alumni were stationed across campus, lending a hand as students moved their belongings into Mulledy, Hanselman, and Wheeler residence halls.
“We had a whole cross-section of alums come back — from recent classes all the way back to the ’70s,” says Maureen Moran ’89, a member of the General Alumni Association which organized the inaugural effort. “Parents are so impressed to see alums come back and the students are interested to see us.”
Moran was pleasantly surprised with the high number of alumni who volunteered, despite the pouring rain.
“Our goal initially was to have 15 alums volunteer, and we ended up with over 30. It speaks to our commitment to Holy Cross and our experience when we were students.”
Approximately 300 student volunteers — including members of the men’s football and soccer teams — were also placed across campus to greet students, carry belongings into residence halls, and assist with paperwork.
