Holy Cross has established a goal of reducing carbon gas emissions 20 percent by 2015 and reaching carbon neutrality by 2040 as part of the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. Of the 392 colleges and universities whose presidents signed the pledge in 2007, Holy Cross is among the 88 to submit a plan by the deadline.

To learn more, watch a presentation on the College’s Carbon Neutral Plan which includes information on campus energy reduction accomplishments to date, waste minimization and recycling efforts, the campus’ new community garden, efforts from the Student Government Association and Eco-Action, academic programs, results from a wind turbine study on campus, and ways the College community can help reach the carbon neutral goal.

The presentation is delivered by members of the Presidential Task Force on the Environment. The video features Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., president; Scott Merrill, director of Physical Plant; Katherine Kiel, associate professor of economics; John Cannon, associate director for planning and operations in Physical Plant; Maria de la Motte ’10, Eco-Action co-chair; and Elena Rogliano ’12, chair of environmental concerns for the Student Government Association.
