On “Worcester News Tonight,” broadcasted on Charter Channel 3, several student leaders at the College of the Holy Cross provided insight on the importance of the College’s 16th annual Unity Week, a week-long celebration that explored the importance of diversity and its appropriate timing after the election.
“I think it’s important that we recognize, despite [our] differences, we are all Americans, and we are in it together,” said Ameer Phillips ’17, Student Government Association (SGA) director of diversity and chair of the Unity Week planning committee. “Now more than ever, it is important that we recognize the diversity within ourselves, so we can connect and relate to the diversity within others.”
SGA co-president, Emily Breakell ’17, commented on the emotional aftermath following the election results. “I think what’s most important for me is to affirm the feelings of students that are really concerned and worried for themselves, their families and their friends,” said Breakell.
In addition, the Chaplains’ office brought the Holy Cross community together for an interfaith prayer in St. Joseph’s Memorial Chapel on Monday, Nov. 14 to reflect on the recent election. Marybeth Kearns-Barrett, director of the chaplains’ office, asked the campus to help “in healing the wounds that divide us and in strengthening our shared commitment to work for the common good.”
