Man Booker Prize Winner Anne Enright to Give Reading at Holy Cross

Anne Enright, internationally renowned author, will give a reading on Wednesday, April 17 at 7 p.m. in the Rehm Library at the College of the Holy Cross. Sponsored by the Edward Callahan Support Fund for Irish Studies and the Working Writers Series, the event is free and open to the public.

Enright has published five acclaimed novels, including “The Gathering” (Grove Press, 2007), which won the 2007 Man Booker Prize, the most esteemed honor for fiction writers from the British Commonwealth and Ireland. Other novels include “The Portable Virgin” (1991), “What Are You Like?”(Grove Press, 2000), and “The Forgotten Waltz” (W.W. Norton & Company, 2011), which was short listed for the Orange Prize and won the Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction in 2012.  Her non-fiction books include “Making Babies: Stumbling into Motherhood” (W. W. Norton & Company, 2004, 2012), which was recently released in the US, and the introduction to her edited collection “The Granta Book of the Irish Short Story” (Granta, 2010).

Enright is the recipient of numerous awards including the 1991 Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, the 2001 Encore Award, and the 2012 Carnegie Medal for Excellence in Fiction.

Born in Ireland in 1962, Enright began her career as a television producer and director for RTÉ, and currently writes and reviews for publications including The Irish Times and The Guardian.
