In a recent episode of “The Bill Simmons Podcast” featuring popular sports writer Bill Simmons ’92 and former director of speechwriting for President Barack Obama Jon Favreau ’03, the Holy Cross alumni talked hoops and the horrors of today’s political debates. Favreau weighed in on how the U.S. presidential primary campaigns are progressing, and the personal nature that these campaigns take on.
“Primary campaigns, as we’re seeing now, in some ways become even more intense than general elections because in a general election, you’re fighting over issues because you have such different views,” said Favreau. “In a primary campaign, you’re trying to stand out and win based on personalities and leadership styles, so it becomes more personal in that way. And that was certainly the case with Obama and Clinton in ’08.”
Listen to the full podcast to hear Simmons and Favreau reminisce on their own years at Holy Cross, as well as their entire discussion around the election.
