Leading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, Dr. Anthony Fauci ‘62 is no stranger to facing challenges head-on. In a Q&A with The Atlantic, he discusses predicting and handling public health crises, addressing the “anti-vaxer” movement, and adapting to each new administration.
“How do you stay motivated, since this administration has pretty openly wanted to cut a lot of global-health funding, foreign aid, AIDS research?” The Atlantic asked.
“It doesn't interfere with my motivation,” said Dr. Fauci, who was a classics major with a premedical concentration at Holy Cross. “I'm driven by the problems that I have to solve. Sometimes you do it with a lot of resources and sometimes you do it with less resources.”
